Deon's Honey Products

Deon's Honey Products

Description

The bee business is run by the Stewart family, and research and development is conducted by Dr R Jacobsen in an analytical laboratory high up in the Drakebsberg mountains All honey is made in the most advanced factory in the world – the factory of the bees, which collect their nectar, resins and pollen in the pristine mountain areas, Here the higher sun radiation leads to elevated flavonoid content (a healing ingredient ) in bee products.

We are based at SCRUMPY JACKS which is situated in the Central Drakensberg, KwaZulu Natal on the R600 near the PeakView forests.

We offer

  • a natural health bee product called Propolis
  • educational tours including unique displays of living bees behind glass and
  • a range of mouth watering home made honey products.

Despite the therapeutic benefits of bee products, there is no way for man to recreate synthetically the properties of honey, pollen or propolis. In fact bee products contains certain compounds which are so complex that they have yet to be identified and categorized. Science has proved that isolated active ingredients of bee products are not nearly as health effective as the whole original bee product. Our delicious honey products are made on our farm under mother's watchful eye and personal touch.

BEE TOURS

Learn and observe something from the incredible bee with its experience of more than 40 million years. This is extremely popular with both children and adults.

The show lasts for about half an hour. A short informative talk is followed by a tour to observe bees. The glass walls of the hive facilitate close observation of the bees. “Its like getting right into the hive without fear of being stung is how best to describe it. Experience the amazing business of each bee and marvel at the organized females at work; cleaning the hive, building the comb and undertaking duties. The males can be observed having meetings and delegating chores for the female workers.

Learn to respect and conserve bees which are rapidly being threatened by mankind for their very survival.

PROPOLIS

What is it?
Propolis is a safe natural health product made in the factory of the amazing bee which has taken at least 40 million years to perfect the recipe. It is free from any side effects and its use by man can be traced back at least 3,000 years. Its use was recorded in ancient Greece, Rome and Egypt; was documented by Aristotle, and the bible refers to the therapeutic effects of tzori (Hebrew for propolis).

How do bees make and use propolis?
They collect a sticky resin from leaf buds or bark of plants which make it to protect themselves from disease. Using their saliva, they mix the plant resins (55%) with etheric oils(10%),wax(30%) from their abdominal glands and small amounts of pollen(5%) They carry this in moulded pellets on their legs back to the hive where they use it for protection of the colony; sealing gaps and disinfecting the hive, plugging the honeycomb cells where the hatching eggs require sterile conditions for the developing young. They also use it to embalm intruders to the hive rendering them sterile and unable to spread diseases.

 What does propolis contain?

  • all the known vitamins except for vitamin K, fourteen of the 15 minerals that the human body requires for normal function.
  • phenols and flavonoids which are Nature's most powerful health products
  • caffeic acid which are anti-allergy agents
Despite the obvious benefits, there is no way for man to synthetically recreate the properties of honey, pollen, propolis or royal jelly. In fact it contains certain compounds which are so complex that they have yet to be identified and categorized.

What are the properties of propolis?
  • antibiotic, fighting infections in every part of the body
  • anti-fungal,(especially Candida)

Propolis is itself a preservative, so it last well. It is best stored in an airtight container, in the dark and away from heat. Even after a year it will be as good as new. Don’t mix old with new propolis

H&D Propolis
The plants that grow in the mountains have more bio-flavonoids than the plants that are at sea level, due to the higher radiation level in the mountains Our propolis tincture contains the equvalent of 50% raw propolis in alcohol (or alcohol free) base.
