High 5 Adventure Trail

 

A five day activity holiday based in the beautiful Eastern Cape Highlands – The Wild Side of the Drakensberg. Our High 5 Trail is deisgned to provide variety, exhilaration and adventure. We travel from farm to farm using a different mode of transport each day – foot, pedal, hoof and paddle. Highlights include hiking to a magnificent waterfall, moutain biking on tranquil paths, horse riding through rugged terrain and finally river rafting on the Kraai. The trail includes beautiful Guest Farm accommodation is remote and peaceful locations. Your job is simply to enjoy yourself – we’ll look after everything else including catering and transportation of luggage between venues.  

 

 

Where is it?
  • Between Barkly East & Rhodes, Eastern Cape
What will we do?
  • Day 1: Arrival at Rosstrevor Guest Farm. Dinner and briefing.
  • Day 2: Mountain biking to Avoca Guest Farm. Overnight Avoca.
  • Day 3: Hike to Snowdon waterfalls through scenic river valley. Overnight Rosstrevor.
  • Day 4: Optional mountain biking in the morning. Afternoon River Rafting on the Kraai. Overnight camp in riverside sandstone cave.
  • Day 5: River rafting trip continues with mid-morning hike to bushman paining cave. Overnight Rosstrevor.
  • Day 6: Breakfast before departure
What do we need to bring?
  • Outdoor clothing, cameras, daybag. Discount available for those bringing their own mountain bikes.
Any Limitations?
  • Minimum group 4 persons (but we may be able to make up larger group)
  • Maximum group 8 persons
  • Max Weight 120 kgs
  • No pregnant mothers
  • Aged 7 to 80 years, although we can tailor the trail to family groups if required

Directions

From Barkly East take the R58 towards Aliwal North. After 3kms turn right (signed New England & Tiffindell). Follow this road for approx 9kms crossing the Kraai River at Loch Bridge (National Monument). You might want to pause at the layby further up this cutting to take in the scenic views including the famous Barkly Railway Reverses (only 3 of their kind in the world). At the T junction turn right (signed Wartrail/Tiffindell) and follow this road for 16kms. At the T junction turn left (signed New England) and follow this road for 8kms. Millard Farm Drive is on the right hand side (signed Avoca & Snowdon). After approx 3.5kms you will see farm buildings on your right hand side. Take the second entrance (signed Millard - Wild Trout Association) through a tall brick gateway and follow the drive around the garden to reach the cottage.
